Petra, Jordan

January 4, 2024 – Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before transferring to Petra, Jordan.

Begin your visit with an optional horse ride from the main gate of Petra to the entrance of the old city. The ancient city of Petra was built between 800 BC to AD 100 by Nabatean Arabs. In this era, Petra was a fortress, carved out of the jagged rocks in an area, which was virtually inaccessible. In the first and second century, after the Romans invaded, the city reached the peak of its fame.

Petra covers an area of about 100 square kilometers, where over 800 monuments can be found. When shipping slowly displaced caravan routes, the city’s importance gradually dwindled, and it fell into disuse and was lost to the world until 1812, when it was re-discovered by the Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burkhart. Nowadays, Petra is a popular tourist attraction, known as the “rose-red city half as old as time.”

Enjoy lunch at the Basin Restaurant. Situated in the heart of the ancient city, this is a great place to stop and rest your tired feet and one of the few places to eat inside Petra, apart from snack bars. Luckily, the Basin Restaurant provides a heartier meal to ensure that you are ready to keep exploring the wonderful city.

Tonight, enjoy dinner at The Nabatean Cave Bar, located inside a Nabataean tomb in the hillside holding the Petra Guest House Hotel. One of the most unique bars you will ever go to, offering a mix of energy and maturity to help you unwind after a busy day in the archaeological park. There are several burial niches around the perimeter of the room, which offer cozy private tables for two or three people, and larger tables in the main room.

Head back to Movenpick Resort Petra for your overnight stay in a Junior Suite.

A maze of monolithic rock formations rises up from the desert floor to heights of 1,750 meters.

Enjoy a two-hour excursion of Wadi Rum in a four-wheel drive vehicle before settling down for lunch at Mazayen Camp.

Transfer back to Hyatt Rum Camp for some rest and a desert sunset experience. Enjoy champagne and finger foods as you watch the sunset over the desert before you sleep beneath the stars in a tented suite.

January 6, 2024 – Enjoy breakfast at the Camp main restaurant before being transferred to Aqaba Port for departure.
