January 24, 2023 – This afternoon enjoy lunch at Explora before touring on this island. Touring Description: We leave the lodge by van and travel to Ahu Akivi, the only place on the island where the Moai are facing the sea. We continue by van until reaching the Te Peu platform, from where we hike along steep cliffs with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. Along the way, we visit the Ana Kakenga Cave, a large tubular cavern formed by flowing lava. We finish at the Ahu Tahai, in Hanga Roa, where we find the only Moai with coral eyes. We return to the lodge by van.

January 25, 2023 – Enjoy breakfast this morning before touring. We leave the lodge by van and travel to Ahu Tongariki, a platform with 15 intact Moai. This is the biggest platform or Ahu on the island, where we can also find stone petroglyphs scattered on the ground. Next, we skirt the coast, with panoramic views of the shifting turquoise and deep blue sea, the fishing coves with local villagers, and numerous archaeological sites, including one with a perfectly polished round rock, which due to its high iron content causes compasses to behave strangely. Then, we walk to Ovahe Beach, with its reddish sand and crystal clear waters, from where we take the van to Anakena Beach, the largest beach on the island. We return to the lodge by van.

January 26, 2023 – We leave the lodge by van and travel to the Ahu Tahira, a platform of similar construction to those of the Incas in Perú due to its perfectly overlapping stone structures. Next, we skirt steep cliffs until reaching the edge of the Rano Kau crater, with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and the interior of the volcano. We we walk around the rim crater until reaching Orongo, the ancient ceremonial village where the Tangata Manu (birdman) competition was performed. Return to the lodge by van.

Tonight enjoy a special UMU TA’O CEREMONY: The Umu ta’o or curanto is the traditional food of Easter Island. A hole in the ground covered with volcanic stones serves as an oven. Variety of meat, seafood and vegetables are cooked with warmed stones. This is covered with banana leaves and covered the with dirt. It is served with unpeeled potatoes, chicken and “po’e, pudding made with flour, pumpkin and banana.

January 27, 2023 – This morning enjoy shopping at Hanga Roa as well as Handcraft market visit prior to departure
